A Low Tension panel referred to as an LT panel across the industry, and sometimes simply a low panel on a site drawing, is an electrical distribution board that receives power from a transformer or generator and regulates its distribution to heavy-load machinery and downstream distribution boards, operating at low voltage levels (below 1000V) typical of most industrial and commercial sites.
Inside, busbars carry current from incoming feeders to outgoing feeders through the panel's protection devices, while relays detect faults and trip breakers to isolate problems before they cascade. Indication lamps give operators a quick visual status check, and cooling systems like exhaust fans or louvers prevent overheating under sustained high current making LT panels the workhorse distribution layer, alongside other distribution boards, in most facilities.
